Yishuv Ha’Olam

The mitzvah of yishuv ha’olam, which means sustaining and preserving the world, calls upon us to create the conditions in which life can flourish. The 2019 teshuvah by Rabbis Nina Cardin and Avram Reisner identifies yishuv ha’olam as a foundational mitzvah, rooted in the Torah’s vision of a world created not for chaos, but “for habitation” (Isaiah 45:18). Living out that responsibility today means building an energy future that protects our environment while also keeping energy affordable and reliable for our homes, synagogues, and communities. We believe these goals can—and must—go together.
